Working in Uganda

Uganda is the 3rd largest economy in the EAC, behind Kenya and Tanzania. Its economy is significantly powered by agriculture, where sugar, tobacco and brewing are major industries. It has rich mineral deposits, fertile land, and holds a position in central East Africa which boosts its trade options. Its major exports are coffee, tea, fish and cotton.

Why work in Uganda?

Uganda is a developing economy with much potential. The economy had grown year on year over 5% and there has been much public investment. There are many growing sectors offering opportunities for early career and senior professionals. The healthcare and education system are developed, and are on par with other African countries, though private insurance and schooling are often preferred. The country has a higher than average crime rate, and so following the advice of your employer is essential. As an EAC member, most people will need a work permit to move to Uganda for work, and you will need a job offer before you can obtain this.
